Toumarkin almost touched Cseh’s record

15.7.2010

Second day of the European Junior Swimming Championships lifted team Germany up to the top of the Medals table. Germany won three of the eight Gold medals presented on Thursday. Now they have also one Silver. Team Great Britain is hanging on the second place with seven medals, two them Golden, three Silver and two Bronze. Team Ukraine stands on the third position with four medals.

The very first Final on Thursday was 100 meter Backstroke for boys. Yakov-Yan Toumarkin from Israel became the champion with time of 55.20, just 0,14 seconds shy of the Championships Record of Hungarian Laszlo Cseh from the year 2003. Breaking the CR of Cseh would have been a jackpot for this talented 18 years old swimmer, but the improvement for his former record of 55.50 was also convincing performance.

Henrietta Stenkvist from Sweden had a rough but successful evening on Thursday. First she won the title in 400 meter Freestyle by improving her personal best time to 4:13.69. Then she was awarded with the Bronze medal in 200 meter Backstroke and just to make sure to get good sleep for the night she swam with team Sweden in Freestyle relay Final.

In the Final of Girls 4x100 meter Freestyle relay German took the victory ahead of Great Britain.  Host nation Finland reached also for the Final in relay, that’s something what has not happened since 2003 at the Championships in Glasgow.
